Chapagaun: My New Home

It's been nearly 2 years since I moved in with my husband and stayed in Chapagaun.  The first time I glanced at this place it was April that time and it's Spring season, the scenery is so lovely. The place is enclosed by hills, tall trees, colorful flowers, different kinds of birds and the smell of fresh air is what I love the most.

Chapagaun as Part of Bajrabharahi Municipality
Chapagaun was previously part of Village Development Committee (VDC). Village Development Committee is the lowest level of administrative and political division of Nepal. In short, VDC means literally a village. However, a few years back the government released a memorandum that our placed will be part of Bajrabarahi municipality. Jharuwarasi, Lele, and Thecho are part of Bajrabarahi municipality as well. The difference between Village Development Committee and Municipality are the size of population and level of development.

Yes! Ladies and gentleman, our place was recognized as developed when it comes to infrastructure, although, in my opinion, it is still a rural area. There are huge fields for planting numerous kinds of crops. Since Chapagaun is located in Hilly region, the climate and fertile soil are a perfect combination for planting.

Places to Visit in Chapagaun and its Vicinity
Except during monsoon season, it is good to visit places in Nepal. I really love the climate here, the air is not humid unlike in the city of Manila. In Chapagaun, there are various places you can visit.
  1. Bajrabarahi Temple- This is a Hindu Temple. Situated in a small timberland park. It was named after Goddess Bajrabarahi (Devi). The temple is surrounded by huge forest wherein you can spot varieties of birds like parrots, Bengal green pigeon, black drongo blue-throated barbet, crested serpent eagle and much more. When you stroll, you can gaze at the diverse kind of flora and rare orchids that can only be found here. A lot of people come to visit the temple and gather a picnic.

  2.  Gumba (Buddhist Monastery) – Buddhism is the second largest religion in Nepal. There are  various famous Buddhist temples in Nepal such as Boudha Stupa. Swayambhu Stupa and Kopan Monastery.  I would say the structure of Buddhist Temple is so fabulous compared to Hindu Temple. Gumba is situated across the Bajhabarahi hospital.

It is settled in Jharuwasi  and 18 minutes far from Chapagaun. The temple is situated on the top hill but with the help of vehicles, it’s easier to reach the holy place. It is desirable for sightseeing, also you can see the green and clean environment with dense of a forest. There is an enormous heap of flowers and diverse kinds of birds. From the top, you will see the  full view of the entire valley.

  4.  Nagdaha Lake (Snake Temple) – Nagdaha is located in Dhapakhel, it is approximately 19 minutes far from Chapagaun. It is a wonderful lake with high religious value and boating is permitted. This lake has a temple and the statue of Nag Deva, the Snake God. It is an amazing and peaceful place for relaxing. During Nag Panchami, people used to visit the temple and worshiped Nag Deva. Hindus believe that Snake God brings good rains and prosperity to the country.
    5. Pyangoun Village – it is a beautiful village located in Chapagaun. It is composed of more than 120 households and nearly 1250 people lived in the village. The main language of communication is Newari. The people of the village are named Gaam or Gaamal/Gaamle, they are involved in organizing theater shows and performing a wide range of cultural dances called Jhaki. The village is renowned for its rich culture, arts, and handicrafts.

Chapagaun is a small village with enormous hidden beauty. The context of this town is very far from where I grow up. Hence, I would say that I call this place my second home.

P.S Please Stay tune for my next upload. I will tackle individually these places. Take Care!
